NBSPCA Press Release

On Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, Julienne Elizabeth Power appeared in Caraquet Provincial Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to provide an animal with adequate medical attention under the New Brunswick SPCA Act. The charges were laid as a result of an incident that occurred on July 18th, 2012, in Bas-Caraquet, where a puppy was reported to have fallen from a 2nd story window the previous day and remained where it fell.

The RCMP was called to assist the NBSPCA as they had police officers in the area who were able to immediately respond to the call.

The five month old puppy was taken to a veterinarian and later euthanized due to the extent of its injuries. Power was convicted, ordered to pay $100 restitution for the veterinarian bill, and is prohibited from owning animals in the province of New Brunswick for a period of three years.

From the President's Message:
"In June I assumed the presidency of the New Brunswick SPCA, replacing former president Joy Bacon, who steps down after providing four busy years of strong leadership for the NBSPCA. Fortunately, Joy remains on the board of directors in her position as past-president.

Having served as president of the NBSPCA before, I am well aware of the many challenges the office brings. This year, however, the presidency brings special challenges. Several individuals whose work has been vital to the society have recently moved on to other opportunities and have left the NBSPCA with big shoes to fill."
